Audience Reviews for Mr. Gam's Victory (Superstar Gam Sa-Yong)

Rookie director, Jong-hyeon Kim, creates a more than decent baseball drama, based off of a real life left-handed pitcher in Korea.

What he have here is more or less a typical underdog story. An unknown tries out for a professional baseball team and makes it. His playing time is limited, until his opportunity comes. The pacing is moderate and there is a lot of drama, however it never feels like the film is ever dragging, despite having little baseball game play in the earlier half.

The character development is good for the main character of Gam Sa-yong, as there is a lot of time spent with the friends he makes and the relationship he has with his family. This is why the baseball element feels like it is in the background. Don't sweat it, since the final 40 minutes is one long dramatic game, which baseball fans will love. The nice thing is that it isn't a cliched championship game of any sorts. It is just a regular season game, although it does come down to the bases loaded, bottom of the 9th, down by one run scenario.

Beom-su Lee puts on an effective performance and one can't help but route for him in the finale. Jin-seo Yun, Hyeok-jae Lee, and Seung-su Ryu are the notable supporting actors.

Mr. Gam's Victory seems a little Hollywoody at times, but that doesn't make it a terrible movie. Fans of these underdog sports dramas will find this enjoyable.
