Movie Info

In this film, young Margaret O'Brien tries to help her pregnant older sister, who in is pining away for her GI husband. As it happens, the older girl is a cellist in Jose Iturbi's orchestra; thus many of the plot threads are knotted together in a series of concert recitals.

More moving than it should be thanks to the skillful playing of the cast even if Margaret O'Brien lays it on a bit thick. June is very fetching and Marie Wilson is endearing as the slightly airy clarinetist but best of all is Marsha Hunt a wonderful actress who never had the stardom she deserved. The music lead by Iturbi is wonderful too of course.

A predictable but pleasant little piece of fluff about a pregnant cellist whose husband is away in the war. Movies like this aren't usually my cup of java and I'm not a fan of any of the major players, but I stumbled onto it and for some strange reason got into it. Could have been the music...the symphony in which Allyson's character plays performed pieces from the likes of Beethoven, Mozart and Handel, and Jose Uturbi, who plays the symphony conductor, performs some beautiful piano pieces. A nice little tiimewaster.
