This Musketeer plays like a martial-arts film, all fun fights but devoid of soul.

A jumble of action and motivation, ill-defined characters and action howlers.

For the third time in less than a decade, Alexandre Dumas is turning over in his grave.

"The Musketeer" is an unfortunate attempt to graft the lyrical artistry of a "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" onto an old-fashioned swashbuckler with disappointing results.

The most realistic action scenes caught on film since...The Care Bears Movie.

The thing comes off more like an action-movie parody on The Simpsons than an actual action movie.

If you're going to do it, you've got to go all the way, and not stint on the action, the acting or the production values.

The Musketeer tries for a few laughs here and there, but it appears Hyams really couldn't decide what he wanted to do in regards to this.

With a run time of 106 minutes it should have been more like 80.

Chambers has the range of slack-jaw Freddie Prinze Jr., and his hat has more charisma that he -- who is, recall, the star of the film -- does. I'd rather watch the mud on his far more charismatic boots dry.

The Musketeer betrays its utter lack of real ambition in the casting of the wooden, charmlessly handsome, totally generic Justin Chambers in the title role.

Justin a thoroughly vapid lead, lacking the flair, charm, or acting ability to cut a suitably heroic figure.

A grotesque slumgullion of kung fu, studio schlock and pseudo-Dumas swashbuckling that leaves you longing for Doug Fairbanks -- or even Don Ameche and The Ritz Brothers.

Musketeer's fight scenes are underlit, overmiked, and appallingly edited, with none of the spacious grace that even routine Asian action flicks get right. Worse, the narrative scenes make less sense.
