sad, beautiful and truly insightful. worth watching even if you think avant/free jazz is just ridiculous noise. Ayler's dedication to his vision of new expression is eerily manic but so pure and persuasive. completely inimitable and raw, r.i.p. Albert.

Great movie about a great musician! He said (in 1963): If they don't like it now. They will!
I didn't. I do!

it doesn't matter if you like albert ayler or free jazz or not. you will still see this movie.

A well-made film (given the relative lack of documentary footage), which looks into Albert Ayler's interesting life and mysterious death. As a fan of Ayler's free jazz musical output, I still found this fascinating, and it may even appeal to those who don't know anything about Ayler.
