Movie Info

Louis Kahn, a giant among twentieth-century architects, left a legacy of brilliantly designed and engineered buildings that have a tough beauty and deep spirit. His work challenges us to discover an astonishing sensibility and poetry through light, space, and texture. Kahn's personal life was even more mysterious, and his death, alone and unidentified in Penn Station in 1974, revealed that he led not a double but a triple life, shuttling between his legitimate family and two women and the children they bore him. One of these, his son Nathaniel, takes us on a personal journey to consider the contradictions of this complicated genius and eccentric parent.

Enlightening doc on Kahn's interesting (triple-)life and works. Being the subject's son, the documentarian is intrinsically an important piece of the story, but it quickly becomes clear how profoundly Louis Kahn affected so many others as well. Fortuitously many of these others are also quite the character themselves.

Deeply moving, the poignant and moving documentary I wanted about Louis Kahn, poet, philosopher, architect and inevitably, as a man. This one I will be looking into for strength as the years go by. Louis Kahn's spirit is alive with it!

Terribly dull at times. Frankly, this man shouldn't be sharing his architect.

Interesting documentary about the illegitimate son of famous architect Louis Kahn, rediscovering the father he barely knew through interviews with former colleagues and family and the buildings he created. It didn't really translate the genius of Kahns work - to me, most of his designs looked dull and monolithic (though I'm a Gaudi fan, so what do you expect), but the son's journey of discovery kept me interested. <img src="http://theartjournal.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/homeimage1.jpg">
