Movie Info

Buster Keaton collides head first with unholy matrimony in this hilarious two-reel comedy. A burly Irishwoman (Kate Price) thinks Buster has broken a window and has him brought before a judge -- who is Polish and can't speak English! The judge thinks the two are engaged and immediately marries them. The delighted woman drags Buster to her home and introduces him to her four huge brothers and their spindly father. The whole family abuses Buster until they come to believe -- quite mistakenly -- that he is due a huge inheritance; they then treat him with warmth and consideration. They all relocate to a ritzy penthouse only to learn that Buster has no income coming in. The resulting chaos leads to a wild chase and ends with Buster on a train headed for America's divorce capital, Reno, NV. ~ Nicole Gagne, Rovi

The humor is mostly just slapstick pratfalls and punches, but it's still funny. Not much cleverness in play, beyond the initial premise that sets up Buster accidentally marrying an incompatible stranger.

Another Buster Short running at 17 minutes in length and featuring a host of co-stars including the famous Kate Price as his "accidental wife" and a host of others including Joe Roberts, Monty Collins, Wheezer Dell and Tom Wilson! Part of the joy of watching silents and apparently what was the standard at the time (As per the Visual Essays included in the Blu-ray set) was to feature the same actors as different characters throughout a multitude of silents. The film is one with more characters then most other Buster Shorts but each actor holds their own and plays their part wonderfully and really make for a crazy family that Buster stumbles into. This short isn't one of the best of the two-reeler shorts that Keaton released but it is a solid and funny watch nonetheless.

A mistake in communication results in Keaton's marriage, and his wife's family is nuts. This is funny.
