Movie Info

Before Leonardo DiCaprio was popular and the Titanic sunk all box-office records, this documentary was telling the truth to all National Geographic viewers with exclusive footage of the ship "that God himself could not sink." This video records the original construction through to the final encounter with the ice flows off the coast of Canada. Famed explorer Dr. Robert Ballard details his search and eventual discovery of the RMS Titanic in 13,000 feet of frigid water below the surface of the North Atlantic. Armed with a high-tech robotic camera, haunting pictures reveal the final resting-place for this "unsinkable" ship.

Audience Reviews for Secrets of the Titanic

This documentary is a phenomenal picture that chronicles the discovery of the great ocean liner, R.M.S Titanic. With terrific footage of the search and ultimately discovery of the great liner that sank on April 15, 1912, this is a splendid viewing for titanic history buffs. National Geographic goes with Robert Ballard as he searches and ultimately finds the great ship, and this makes for a great viewing as we see the greatest find in marine history. The documentary shows also the sad tragedy and the cost of the human error. This is a well crafted, insightful documentary that should be seen. Robert Ballard is a great explorer and finding the Titanic was his dream, his obsession and we see him accomplish his goals. This documentary gives us a glimpse of the Titanic wreck for the first time since it went down 73 years earlier (this was made in 1985). The team manages to take video footage of the wreck and plenty of pictures and examine the state of the wreck. This is a well made documentary that chronicles the expedition and is a thorough and comprehensive documentary that will definitely please you if you're interested in the story of the discovery of the great liner, then this is a must watch. Even if you're not interested in the Titanic, this is actually worth seeing due to its significance.

The outstanding archive footage from the era makes this well worth watching. If sometimes goes off on tangents, but overall it's a fascinating documentary.
