Movie Info

Salute to Courage was the original release title of the slick MGM melodrama Nazi Agent. Conrad Veidt essays the dual role of Nazi spy Baron von Detner and the Baron's anti-fascist brother, naturalized American Otto Becker. Arriving in the US, the Baron blackmails Becker into spying against the Good Ol' USA. Killing his hated brother, Becker assumes his sibling's identity in order to expose the latter's Nazi espionage ring. Making things difficult is the presence of the Baron's sweetheart Kaaren de Rille (Ann Ayers), who may or may not tumble to Becker's true identity and blow the whistle on him. Nazi Agent represented the feature-film directorial debut of Jules Dassin, who'd just finished serving his apprenticeship with MGM's short-subject unit.
