Very well done period piece; from the costumes and decor. This movie and the subsequent TV series is a great watch. The repertoire cast is top notch and the regular cast members perform their roles well. I believe this was the first TV series to use HD cameras in the filming of the series. A must see if you like well done decorations and period pieces from the 1940's and 1950's.

Wonderful adaptation of the classic mystery novel.

A sedentary detective who never leaves his home takes on J. Edgar Hoover's FBI- while, at the same time, investigating a murder. This TV-movie is every bit as entertaining as the original book, with the characters of Wolfe and his wisecracking legman Archie brought perfectly to life by Maury Chaykin and Timothy Hutton. Just one story in a series done for A&E from 2000 to 2002- all worth checking out!

Delightful adaptation of Rex Stout's great detective story in which the eccentric genius Nero Wolfe (the late, great character actor Maury Chaykin) and his loyal, fasttalking assistant Archie Goodwin (Timothy Hutton, who also directed) find themselves going up against the FBI when they accept an assignment from rich socialite who believes she is under surveillance. Witty period production has style to spare, with Hutton and Chaykin giving bravura performances in bringing these beloved characters to life.
