Movie Info

The Last House on the Left was a morally bankrupt but highly profitable film about rape, murder, and revenge. The 1978 sequel, The New House on the Left, may even be more reprehensible than the original. Whereas the murder site of the first film was a remote house, the scene of the crime in the sequel is a train (thereby negating the title). This film includes more rapes, more murders, and more revenge than the original --and, undoubtedly, more cash lining the pockets of the producers.

Pedestrian. Director Aldo Lado never ventures far down the more surreal or dreamlike paths favoured by his better-known compatriots in the genre arts.

Build up is deliberate, and we get to know our players thoroughly but not exhaustively. Score by the brilliant Ennio Morricone and cinematography by Gabor Pogany come together to entwine beauty with Lado's propensity for brutality.

The extras are skimpy, but the gorgeous transfer should please fans of this cult oddity.

Audience Reviews for L'Ultimo treno della notte (Night Train Murders)(Xmas Massacre)(Don't Ride on Late Night Trains)

I enjoyed this one, but it was surprisingly sanitized for what I was expecting after hearing the various reviews about it for years now. Don't get me wrong, I don't **need** vivid rape and torture on full display, I was just surprised by how little you actually 'see' in the film, but whatever. Lifted from the Last House On The Left mold, free-spirited young girls on a train fall victim to a couple of thugs on a train, who fall in with a strange, sadistic woman to torment and molest them. It's watchable, but this genre isn't a big concern for me, unless you're going to really go over the top and show me something really disturbing or salacious, but it was an okay way to kill 90 minutes. Rental?

Italian clone of 'The Last House on the Left' with events unfolding onboard a train en route to Italy via Munich. It's not as graphic as 'Last House' but just as disturbing and unsettling to sit through. It's a decent rape/revenge film, but like other films of this kind, too much time is focused on the sexual assaults rather than the actual revenge. Banned in the UK until recently, some of it's shock value has worn off but it's still sleazy and unpleasant to those easily offended.

I know that if Christopher reads this review he is going to WTF it! Anyway I found Night Train Murders to be a chilling atmospheric take on Craven's Last House on the Left. Many say that this is a shot by shot remake but really it is not. Night Train Murders is not nearly as violent but it does offer the same dread and tension. Where the Craven gang goes out for thrills the killers in this are I don't know more motivated by something even more sinister. I do have to admit though there is alot more sexual type torture than in Craven's film. Night Train Murders will not appeal to many but if you love older italian fright flicks then this may be your disturbing cup of tea. The film does take some time to get where it is going but when it does... The death scenes are really rather frightening. Then one of the villians plays this eerie melody on his harmonica. It all adds to truly unique take on Last House and also of a Christmas break gone wrong!
