Night School has a strong comedic cast lead by Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish, but even the two of them combined can't save the film from its weak script.
July 18, 2019
An ideal movie starring Hart and Haddish would make them comedic equals along the lines of Cheech & Chong or Laurel & Hardy. Instead, they're more like Martin & Lewis, Abbott & Costello and Groucho/Chico/Harpo & Zeppo.

The supporting cast had funnier moments than the leads.

This silly film doesn't gloss over the embarrassment that comes with learning challenges, and the commitment required to overcome this adversity.

Could've been a more consistently enjoyable comedy as opposed to the hit and often miss product it ultimately plays out as.

The premise, though promising, isn't very original, and director Malcolm D. Lee's execution isn't very inventive.

Try as he might, director Malcolm D. Lee can't recapture the near-transcendent raunchiness of his hard R-rated Girls Trip within the softer, cuddlier PG-13 formula.

I enjoy Kevin Hart on occasion and it seemed like a cute premise. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the film.

Little more than a collection of uninspired plot points and go-nowhere improvs that have been edited together almost at random, this is a film that somehow manages to be even more listless, lifeless and mirthless than the trailers hyping it suggest.

"Night School" could have been better. A LOT better. Instead, we get a meandering story where the plot is sparse and the jokes are even sparser.
January 28, 2019
Generic, messy, flat, over-extended and all-too-earnest, running for nearly two hours with sentiment and silliness where its scant narrative should be
January 1, 2019
Unlike Hart's other high-concept comedies, there is simply not enough laughs or character development to give Night School a passing grade.
December 22, 2018
The film's messages of never giving up and working hard to triumph over adversity are good life lessons but are buried under a bland, unfunny, generic shell.

If I were to attend to a night school such as the one portrayed in this film, I would be down on my knees, pleading until my throat bleeds to be expelled from the class, because Night School is one of the most insufferable comedies of the year.
October 27, 2018
Ultimately, Night School's biggest crime is how bland it is. It's difficult to care about anything that happens, because the jokes are so flat, the characters so dull.
October 25, 2018
It's a pairing that on paper should have created comedic fireworks. Unfortunately, those sparks never come to fruition.
October 13, 2018
...a seriously misguided contemporary comedy that seems unlikely to appeal even to Hart and Haddish's fans.
October 11, 2018
Even Hart is better than this. But neither he nor Haddish have the ability to save what's in front of them. While I give them credit for trying their hardest, it's still not enough to pass the test.
October 10, 2018
Night School is a complete waste of time of the people who made it and the people who are unlucky enough to watch it.
October 10, 2018
Instead of a fun laugh riot, we got a total dud.
