Everybody just wants something from you.

A mute man that has been in jail for almost twenty years is released and appears to have conducted a straightforward revenge killing. However, as a detective investigates the murder, he uncovers a string of lies that makes the crime look less straightforward. The detective will need to research the original crime of the suspect twenty years ago to help determine what happened in the most recent murder.

"You should find it shameful too."

Rioy Hin Yeung Chow, director of Murderer and Rise of the Legend, delivers Nightfall. The storyline for this picture is interesting and fun to watch unfold with a few decent action sequences. The acting was okay and the dialogue was average.

"He hardened himself up like steel."

I randomly came across this on Netflix and decided to add it to the queue. This was fairly good and had some great character plots and subplots and did keep me interested from beginning to end. I wouldn't say this was special, in an Ishii the Killer kind of way, but it is worth a viewing if you enjoy the genre.

"I will always be with you."

(2012) Nightfall
(In Chinese with English subtitles)

Co-written and directed by Chow Hin Yeung Roy starring Simon Yam as homicide detective George Lam investigating a dead body found in the ocean near some rocks. Because it was so disfigured, they had to use DNA to uncover his identity. And as it turns out, he's supposed to be this wealthy architecture, a father of twin daughters named Han Tsui (Michael Wong) who apparently send this guy named Wong Yuen-yeung (Nick Cheng) in prison for the murder of one of his daughters. Except that not everything is what it appears to be, as more revelations are uncovered.

This movie is extremely predictable, awful, overrated, and overacted. Some of the existing problems is the wife never report the husband missing, nor was there a proper burial of him either. And the fact if DNA was able to find the identity, how come it wasn't used during the killing of the daughter! And since when can someone assault a police officer without being charged? I guess in Hong Kong which is where the movie was made, citizens can assault policemen whenever they want. It is these questions and more this film is lousy movie. This movie is 'all style, no substance'

The story premise, twist & turn are ok; but then everything else is so over-the-top during execution.

Once again the Hong Kong film kids take a simple subject and turn it into a cinematic experience that no US movie seems to be able to ever do sans a blue moon.

This is one of the most beautiful thriller I have seen lately. Beautiful photo, very good acting, and a very interesting script, intelligent and original.

Nightfall is a decent and semi-interesting murder mystery due to the forces of Simon Yam and Nick Cheung. They pretty much carry the movie with their subtle and nuanced performances, in this twisty detective story about a murdered opera singer.

Niente male! Personalmente ho apprezzato la sceneggiatura, che complicata, ma solida. Bravi gli attori e buona la fotografia, sicuramente un regista da tenere d'occhio.

Kernels of a good story existed but actual movie was a fail.

Predictable, but with Nick Cheung being it's saving grace.

Another good movie - revenge, love, sacrifice - to pick when there's nothing showing on TV. Recommended.

Loved it, what a great Hong Kong thriller... with a nice twist in its tale, that maybe you can (or cannot) see coming. Really well done movie.

there were some loopholes in the story but it was nice overall. Nice to see Nick Cheung and Simon Yam together.

Something missing, it's good but not great, it could go beyond on what has written for suspense, psychological film. Nevertheless, amazing acts by the main casts!

Expected linear plot saved by the cast's great performance.

I would rate almost 4 stars; better than expected, but Do's script-writing is still a trash, this wasted Chow's directing indeed.
