Movie Info

Hot gossip and cool hairdos sit side-by-side in this independent comedy-drama. Nora (Jenifer Lewis) is the owner of her own hair salon in an African-American community in Los Angeles, and she watches over her "family" of employees, as well as an assortment of friends, relatives, and regular customers. Lilleana (Tatyana Ali) is a new employee at the salon who is trapped in an abusive relationship with her husband Bennie (Bobby Brown). Chloe (Tamala Jones) is a hair stylist who has aspirations of making it into show biz. Ming (Lucille Soong) does manicures and isn't very good at minding her temper or hiding her opinions. And Devin (Jean-Claude LaMarre) is a gay man who is feeling uncertain about his relationship with his boyfriend, Delicious (Donn Swaby). Hip-hop stars Lil' Kim and Pras also appear in supporting roles.

Plot: Nora (Jennifer Lewis) runs a neighborhood hair salon where hair takes a backseat to gossip, romantic problems, and even the occasional fight. Besides being the boss, Nora also is also a motherly figure for her employees--stargazing Clo (Tamala Jones), driven Lilleana (Tatyana Ali), and sexually confused Devin. Bobby Brown and Lil' Kim make cameos in this knowing comedy in which high drama meets hype hair. Review: "Nora's Hair Salon" was not too good of a movie. It was trying to be sumthing like "Barbershop" but it really really fell short. The movie wasn't funny and the story wasn't interesting or original. The acting and the dialogue was horrible. Jennifer Lewis is the star of the movie, she plays Nora the owner of the salon and she did an OK performance for a horrible script. Tatyana Ali plays Lilleana, a girl with man drama and is a great hair stylist hired by Nora, she was horrible, she was not believable. Tamara Jones was also in the movie and she did pretty good, probably da must believable character in the movie, I don't no what she's doin wasting her time in this movie. There was a lot of stereotypes in the movie but it wasn't really offensive to me. The only offensive thing about the movie was having LIl' Kim, Whitney Houston & Bobby Brown in the movie. They were horrible and they didn't really fit in the movie especially Bobby Brown, he must have been smoking dat crack cuz he looked toasted and whitney too. IIIght no more writing bout this movie, just stay away from this movie it's not even close to being "Barbershop". The end was touching doe but everything else was horrible.
