The always dependable Kenneth More stars this this Indian set action adventure shot in vibrant technicolor that really goes to prove that old films can be just as entertainingly watchable as any of the stuff we get these days. This can be easily compared to the brilliant Dark of the sun, although it is a little more family friendly, much more of a matinee Saturday afternoon crowd-pleaser than a hard-edged, hairy-backed armchair-gripper. Even though this is good popcorn fun, it still has a strong political theme running through involving the beginning of the end of British rule. The support cast is strong including Lauren Bacall and the always good Herbert Lom. So it's well made, entertaining, well cast, fun, and well worth a look. What more do you need?

Exciting and unashamedly British adventure. A disparate group attempt to escape a rebel attack aboard a decrepit steam engine on the Indian North West Frontier in 1905. Kenneth More is excellent as the British officer tasked with protecting a young Indian prince, Lauren Bacall a feisty American governess and Herbert Lom is menacing as the slimy, untrustworthy journalist. The ensemble piece also includes a delightful performance from Wilfird Hyde-White as a consular officer who is perfectly cast and I.S. Johar as the train's driver, Gupta. Action, suspense and a stirring soundtrack ... they don't make them like this any more.

A great adventure from one of my favorite time periods, and for that matter, story genres!

A good film to watch on a wet Sunday afternoon. Kenneth More in good form with Lauren Bacall as the surprise love interest, a long, long way from her sultry performances with Humphrey Bogart.

High production values, good acting and a not uninteresting story are pluses but the film seems to go on forever. A little editing and a quicker pace would have helped immeasurably.

Cliches in the second half of "North West Frontier" prevent the film from being as good as it could have been.

Inexcusable racist claptrap, ok. But also, Dammit, Dashed entertaining. Although Kenneth More is a bit wooden, he also has massive screen presence and is always fun to watch as the unthinking representative of a soft hearted empire on the decline, pitted against some pretty dastardly enemies and odds in India

This is my favourite movie ever. I don't know why. It just fills the right spot I suppose. Kenneth More is awesome, Herbert Lom is Herbert Lom and Lauren Bacall is just luminous. If you can't find it under this name, try under North West Frontier (1959).
