Movie Info

Psychotherapist Dr. Lisa Apramian directed this unusual look at the onstage theatrics and offstage issues of women in alternative rock. Cutting back and forth between performance footage and interviews in which the artists discuss the social, political, and creative issues presented in their work, Not Bad for a Girl explores women in music who aggressively challenge the nature of conventional femininity and personal expression -- both in their art and in their lives. Interview subjects include glam-punk pioneer Joan Jett, actress and musician Courtney Love (as well as the musicians of her band Hole), and the members of all-female punk bands Babes in Toyland and The Lunachicks.
