Movie Info

"Not Another Jesus Camp" is a documentary about the legendary Camp Kinderland, the summer camp, which still exists, and was founded in the 1920's by secular Jewish workers who wanted their children to escape hot New York City summers for a progressive Yiddish-speaking environment. Eight decades later, of the many progressive camps which enriched America's cultural and political landscapes, Kinderland stands alone. Capturing one Kinderland summer and weaving in history, the film focuses on the 'Peace Olympics,' Kinderland's alternative to other camps' competitive 'color wars.' Each summer Kinderland organizes its program around a theme, and this season it's 'From Discussion to Action: Making the World a Better Place' with teams Center for Constitutional Rights, Greenpeace, Jews For Racial and Economic Justice and the Highlander School.

Critic Reviews for Not Another Jesus Camp (Commie Camp)

All Critics (2)

Commie Camp, despite its narrative shortcomings, at least celebrates that kids like this exist, and that there's a place willing to nurture them.

More defensive than defiant, the documentary and its metaphorically meaningful title Commie Camp come off as anything but historically honoring activist pride roots. And you know something isn't quite right if Rush Limbaugh seems to be making a point.
