Nothing but the Truth was a bit of a shock to watch and it wasn't until after reading the reviews I found the true life connections. This is a harrowing idea and one that is based on real situations. It's a tough story to watch was the media is squashed by the government to ensure free press is not granted the protection it should for the people. The film would've worked better if it had used a longer length to better explore the motivations of its characters. I found the weaker aspects of the story were the support characters that enter and exit each scene. They could've adopted a structure like Traffic and ensured the central character was surrounding by added depth for the duration of this films timeline. The ending is a bit disappointing and I felt it eliminated some of the sting of the film. Consider in real life the journalist flipped to reveal her source. The message here is a little undone by that conclusion. There's some interesting story beats here and it's worthy of checking out if you linger on it long enough. 03/05/2021

The studio behind this 2008 film went bankrupt and so this film never got the theatrical release it deserved. It's another well told political drama by Rod Lurie who did the Joan Allen movie The Contender eight years earlier. Excellent performances by all the leads and a tightly told story.

A story about an incredibly brave and strong woman treated unbelievably unfairly by those in power -- she is an admirable journalist who demonstrates principled integrity, and the film shows the cost of keeping those principles in the face of tyranny. A story worth telling. Very great performance by Kate Beckinsale.
