The director tends to experiment in a strange way but there are many beautiful images and powerful moments to make up for a few unnecessary ones.

Very intelligent, captivating, especially if you can understand the dynamics of interpersonal relationships in this part of the world. Wonderfully witty with hints of the tragedy to come throughout the film. The end very shortly depicts the faith of many Romanian villages, which were demolished by the communist hardcores, forcibly turned into now derelict and decaying industrial areas. Funny and sad at the same time. Well worth seing.

Romania, 1953. Life goes on as always in a small village until Fira and Lancu decide to get married. At the marriage day, the Russian army announce the death of Josef Stalin and forbids any pleasant activity. But the marriage will continue, even if that has to happen silently.
A funny and touching movie that you won't forget.

A great sad-comedy which gives you an awesome carricature of small villages in Romania with their drinking and partying habits during the CCCP period and during all those economic problems. Good acting in overall especially the bride's father.

It seems that every movie that talks about humour as an aid to survival is destined to be a great movie. Entertaining and fascinating, the movie draws you in and the Balkan feeling works perfectly here, as in a Goran Paskaljevic film. A hard and a light film at the same time, the important and the unimportant alike.

After a rather disappointingand mostly theatrical first half (with the exception of the cinema scene), comes a hilarious second half. The only problem of the movie is that it tries to be too many things at the same time: romance, comedy, drama, slapstick, slice-of-life, even a bit of old-style mute-cinema is in it. IT can be a bit disorienting at times, but it REALLY is worth your time. It's less than 90 minutes after all.!!

A very endearing film all through - it's about a wedding in a small East European village which takes place the same day when Stalin dies.
