Pacific Rim is one of those rare gems that doesn't require fantastical storytelling or intricate plots. All you need to do is watch the movie and get all you paid for. The visuals are gorgeous, and the fight scenes somehow retain a sense of both speed and sluggishness that feel right. The plot doesn't require any understanding at all, it's just giant robots fighting giant monsters, and therein lies the beauty. If you're looking for something more detailed or complex, go watch a Christopher Nolan movie, but this is for the die-hard action fans that want nothing more than a quality brawl to scratch their itch.

This movie is what happens when movie makers just have fun with a film and don't allow very serious subjects to slip past. In short, it's just fun to watch with your family. It sets a reasonable pace and I was engaged the whole time while watching it.

A collage of ideas of other similar works but with not a really fresh addition.

Love this movie. The way the GUI is as done you can really see the physical weight of the creatures and robots.

When I learned the main pitch of the movie, I was sold: Humankind is being attacked by a bunch of Godzillas, so to defend ourselves, we built a bunch of Mechagodzillas. And fortunately, this movie does everything to make it fun, as a movie like this should be. Yes, Gojira was ultra-serious, but you can't make Destroy All Monsters ultra-serious, and this is essentially a >$100M Destroy All Monsters, with the same Head of Visual Effects (John Knoll) as: The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Rogue One, Star Trek: First Contact, Avatar & Hugo. It also moves at a clip and doesn't feature any jingoism or dude-bro main characters (well, one for a few minutes but that's it), and features a nice theme of unity in a way similar to Independence Day. The action itself is quite well done, designed by Jackie Chan protégé Bradley Allan, and the VFX are dissyingly crisp and high-quality, taking the revolutions used in the original Transformers movie and upping the ante. The characters are simple but enjoyable, and the story itself features a nice assemble of twists and nuances. It's smarter of a movie than you'd think, in fact substantially so, but you don't require using much brain-power to enjoy, and that, in many ways, the quintessential hallmark of a well-made Summer Blockbuster: You can enjoy it by ignoring all its more subtle intellectual elements, or you can enjoy it even more by paying attention to the more intelligent nuances and details.

I love this movie. It's not perfect but it's giant robots wreaking havoc and tearing apart giant monsters. The effects are great and story is passable. If you like movies like this, you'll love it. It's the best of those in my opinion

Good stuff, better than the sequel. The concept is a bit silly, but the visuals are great.

The Hollywood version of Neon Genesis Evangelion, with good special effects but without a good script. This one is just to relax, eat you popcorn and don't think. Enjoy
