Long ago, legions of monstrous creatures called Kaiju arose from the sea, bringing with them all-consuming war. To fight the Kaiju, mankind developed giant robots called Jaegers, designed to be piloted by two humans locked together in a neural bridge. Wonderfully stupid and unabashedly entertaining, Pacific Rim should be recognized as a standard for blockbuster filmmaking at it's finest thanks to likable characters, a focused script, stunning visual effects, and world building that stands high with some of the best science fiction films ever.

Godzilla meets Transformers in this robots-hitting-monsters actioner. The set pieces are often exciting and some of the "tech" in this world is interesting, but Charlie Hunnam is woefully miscast as the lead (and he has a terrible wandering accent) and the personal dramas are badly written. It's about half successful overall.

Don't know why, but neither the story nor the execution appealed to me. Maybe because I'd formed an opinion about it before going for it. Hardly worked as a time-pass. To be fair enough, 1/5.

I thought this was going to be the dumbest movie ever, or at least a really bad Transformers ripoff, but this was surprisingly good. What's really funny is that this film's cast is composed almost entirely of TV show actors. We're talking people from Sons of Anarchy, Homeland, Always Sunny, Torchwood, and the Unit. But it all works out surprisingly well. Charlie Hunnam is a fantastic choice for the protagonist. Anyway, the action is phenomenal, and the storytelling is pretty solid. I wouldn't mind seeing another one of these in the future.
