Paleri Manikyam's was the first murder case that the first government of the newly formed state of Kerala had to deal with. It was also the first rape-murder recorded in the history. Based on this true incident, the story explores the structure of village life, the hidden violence in the feudal system and the emergence of new political alliances and power equations. It also illustrates the fate of women who continue to be victims and objects of man's pleasure in all political systems. Besides unraveling the design behind a murder, through a blend of politics, history, anthropology and criminology, the story throws light on the socio-political situations that existed in Kerala's interiors until the middle of the last century.
