Movie Info

Gauguin's own words, with the voice of Donald Sutherland, relates the artistic and personal journey of French Post-Impressionist painter Paul Gauguin. Co-produced by the National Gallery of Art, The Savage Dream explores Gauguin's obsessive search for the "savage" simple life, which led him to the South Seas, his artistic achievements, and his final years. The film was shot on-location in Tahiti and Marquesas, tracing his travels to these exotic shores, which came to define both his life and art. The Savage Dream provides a vivid portrait of one of the great artists of the past century.
