Sep 7, 2009 I'm ashamed to say that curiosity got the better of me here. "Pearls Before Swine" is an embarrassing waste of time, that to refer to it as a "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" for the death-industrial crowd would be doing it too much service. Dismal. See more May 12, 2009 Richard Wolstencroft's dark, nihilistic, but often amateurish action-psycho-drama substitutes any semblance of plot for a procession of rambling, fascistic, pseudo-philosophical monologues plastered end-to-end for 95 minutes (with all-too-infrequent bursts of ultraviolence). Shot on a shoestring budget and performed by mostly non-professional, erm, "actors" (the female lead -- and the filmmaker's then-girlfriend! -- Lisa Hutchinson is particularly robotic... thankfully she justifies her presence with copious nudity), the whole thing would be genuinely punk-rock ramshackle if it wasn't so damn leaden. This is a textbook case of a writer-director getting in the way of his own movie, as the picture seems to exist purely as a vehicle for Wolstencroft to sound off about everything from Nazism to DOCTOR WHO. From a storytelling point of view, it's an absolute shambles, with a laughably ridiculous "twist ending", considering what's gone before.
