The Pee-Wee Herman Show (1983)

Critic Consensus: No consensus yet.

Movie Info

Before he had a playhouse for kids, Pee-Wee Herman (Paul Reubens) was entertaining adults inside the famed Roxy Theatre on Sunset Strip, with an act that paid homage to children's television shows of the 1950s. Filmed as part of HBO's "On Location" series, this live performance finds Pee-Wee playing with both puppets and live-action friends, including Kap'n Karl (Phil Hartman), Jambie the Genie (John Paragon) and Hermit Hattie (Edie McClurg).

Audience Reviews for The Pee-Wee Herman Show

The original 1981 Pee-Wee Herman Show was for adults. And it was HILARIOUS and PERFECT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Pee Wee Herman Show is the beginning of the whole Pee Wee thing. Written by Reubens and and Phil Hartman (who also plays Kap'n Karl) this Broadway show is more for the adults than Big Adventure or Pee Wee's Playhouse are, but it is still tons of fun for Pee Wee fans. I actually might prefer Reubens updated version of the show, which incorporated elements from this show and the Playhouse show and added new more modern elements. Still, this is where the Pee-Wee character originated, and for that it remains important to childhood everywhere.
