Audience Reviews for Penny Pinchers (Ti-kkeul-mo-a Ro-maen-seu)

Cute movie about a young woman who had to grow up to fast and a young man who never learned to grow up. As their paths cross in neighboring buildings, they inevitably learn to care about each other and face the world together. As accomplices in odd jobs they learn to make money in a world where getting a "real" job is difficult to people in their mid twenties. Solid acting by Han Ya-Seul and the quick talking Song Joong-ki makes this a winner of a romantic comedy.

Another South Korean romantic comedy that didn't quite do it for me, but I feel that it's better than the usual fare. I have no idea what it was, but I didn't dislike this movie as much as I would've otherwise. I think the problem is that there's a whole lot of nothing happening for much of the movie. None of it is ever bad or terribly offensive, and the movie is never as funny as it thinks it is. Of course, like a lot of Korean movies, it gets weepy at the end but it's never as manipulative as it could've been. The leads are likable enough, minus a few exceptions near the end when the girl starts acting absolutely irrationally, but I mean all these Korean romantic comedies have likable leads so it's not like that sets it apart or anything. And it's not like their chemistry is so out of this world that it makes up for the movie not being particularly funny and really being kind of boring. So while this movie wasn't as bad as I was expecting, and really I've only seen one Korean romantic comedy that I thought was really bad, it simply doesn't do anything that you haven't seen done better elsewhere.
