This soft-core mix of The African Queen, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Flash Gordon and Cannibal Holocaust can only be described as half-cocked.

One of the most ridiculously camp films you'll ever see.

Shadows on the Wall

I'm not exactly complaining, but I can't recall the last movie I saw that turned from 'adventure story' to 'softcore bondage flick' with such knocker-obsessed resolve.

Audience Reviews for The Perils Of Gwendoline In The Land Of The Yik Yak

A French film based on some super sexy comic strip made to cash in on the success of Indiana Jones, but with more in common with Romancing the Stone and Emanuelle and the last Cannibals. That chick from the Whitesnake videos and her hot Jewish friend (Zabou) escape from a convent to travel to the Far East only to be captured for sex slavery. They hire the Great White adventurer who rescued them to search the wastelands of China for the whereabouts of the girl who was responsible for breaking up Whitesnake's father. They encounter all kinds of trouble including cannibals and an Amazon-like society where all the women clamor for the right to breed with the adventurer. All this to find a butterfly. An over-the-top story, trite dialogue and lots of boobs.

The first five minutes in, you can tell that this is going to be dreadful. The acting was superbly bad. Plot was ridiculous, I am surprised that they even made a film out of the bondage porn. It's basically an Indie rip-off of Rider of the Lost Ark, featuring many OK looking actors with excessive nudity.

This was one of many movies that came out after Raiders of The Lost Ark in order to take advantage of the adventure movie craze. This was a French film based on an English 1950's underground comic book. The actors spoke English but they still dubbed the voices and they did it badly. The French version probably didn't have the mouths movie in synch with the words but why was the English version out of synch. The only good thing about this movie was the topless actress. The story was stupid. The dialog was stupid. The plot was stupid. The story and plot was stolen from every previous adventure movie from Tarzan to Indiana Jones. The comic book was full of female bondage, but the movie has none. There was just a lot of sexy armor on the women warriors in the lost city of women. The director tried to make the movie funny but the jokes were just stupid. Gwendoline in the comic book was blond but in this movie she is a red head. Although in the beginning of the movie the Chinese gangsters said she was blond. It was supposed to be set in China but when they go inland they go into an unexplored jungle then desert then back to a jungle then finally a desert. There are no jungles in China and China has been a highly populated civilized country for 5000 years. There is no place on earth were you can walk from jungle to desert to jungle and back to desert. I went to see this movie at the Heritage Park Mall Theater in Midwest City, Ok. It was the edited U.S. version. Now I have the unedited and unrated director's cut on DVD. It was based on the original French version. There's not a single memorable line in the whole movie. It's a must see if you are in to bad movies.
