Critics Consensus

Play Dirty marks a welcome return for writer-director Shane Black to the realm of wisecracking crime thriller, but haphazard execution makes this vehicle less of a comeback and more just low-stakes mucking around.

Mark Wahlberg is playing this guy like every guy he's ever played. Go to Full Review

Not quite vintage Black, and Mark Wahlberg is no Robert Downey Jr, but this is fast and funny enough to be worth a couple of your hours. Squint hard enough and it almost feels like you’re back in the ’90s. Go to Full Review

It’s overlong and friction-less, with chase and action scenes that quickly devolve into pile-ups of Rivian product-placements and gummy-looking VFX elements. Go to Full Review

Beyond a few fun performances, this movie falls flat. The script feels bloated, and Shane Black's touch fails to shine through. Go to Full Review

Play Dirty has a messy script that needs to be cleaned up, which is depressing considering it passed by Shane Black who should have known better. Go to Full Review

Wahlberg, who has come a long way only to now repeatedly star in streaming films I don’t care for, plays the worst interpretation of author Richard Stark’s Parker yet in this film. Go to Full Review

Jay W @RT52162311 4d "Parker" is a strange franchise. It has been going on since the 1960's, had 9 films with 9 different actors playing Parker, along with 8 different names for "Parker". So at least this one keeps the name Parker like the 2013 Statham film. This is the 3rd film in this franchise I've seen, and all of them begin the same way. Parker does a heist, gets betrayed by someone and shot twice in the back, Parker recovers and goes out on his adventure. From there the tones of the movie vary, this one is the most comedic of all the ones I've seen. Some might think that having it be so funny takes away from the tension, or action of the film. But really, the comedy is the best part of this film. The heist, the action and the story are nothing new. It is very predictable, very by the numbers and nothing special. But the comedic beats are what keeps this one as being...fine. See more Eddie S @RT00024053 Jul 7 Pretty awful, even for the robotic acting of Marky Mark. This was the low budget version of the Italian Job with the script that got left in the third bathroom stall on the left, you know the one where the tank is leaking.. See more S. See more Ed H @RT40662899 Apr 25 This is straight to streaming slop. Story is bad, dialogue is bad, cinematography is bad, and casting is bad. This just seems like a cheap Guy Richie knock-off. There are bad movies recently made of higher quality that still somehow beat this movie. The only saving grace is that this movie is somewhat entertaining. I would not go out of my way to see this movie unless you're sick or laid-off. Mark Wahlberg is like Kevin Hart, anything for that paycheck. Wrong lead. Pass. See more Evan B @RT36720849 Mar 31 One of my favorite films to be honest. I love Mark Wahlberg he’s a brilliant actor and absolutely smashed this. I love the plot and thought it was both funny and entertaining. Its not incredible but I rank favorites based on how replayable they are more than enjoyable. See more Read all reviews
