Audience Reviews for Playing Dangerous 2
The most important thing that needs to be said about this movie is that it is most definitely NOT "in the tradition of 'Home Alone'" as the box indicates! Home Alone is a comedy. This is not! Think of Playing Dangerous, instead, as a sort of a cross between James Bond and Encyclopedia Brown. Viewed at one level, the movie is an entertaining and suspenseful story. But there is more to it than that. First, the story's main character, a boy named Stuart Wolfe (played by Mikey LeBeau), is clearly a genius, and one of the results is that the movie gives us the message that it's cool to be smart, which is a message we don't always get in movies. Second, there's a subtle exploration of some aspects of family life. At the beginning of the movie, the Wolfe family comes across as slightly disfunctional. The parents ask their kids questions, but don't stop to listen to the answers, and they are afraid at times to let the kids make their own choices. But by the end of the movie, the parents have been forced to recognize that their kids are growing up, and that their son, in particular, is smart enough to make his own choices, even if those choices differ from those his parents would make. Mikey LeBeau is clearly a very talented actor, and it's unfortunate that he didn't find more opportunities to show off his talent in Hollywood. This unfortunate situation is compounded by the fact that Playing Dangerous and its equally entertaining sequel, Playing Dangerous 2, are not easy to find!
