A medical-underworld thriller that teaches the star of TV's The X-Files something about Z-grade theatrical pics.

The degree to which Playing God simply doesn't work is, quite frankly, astonishing...

Another boring Pulp Fiction derivative - a copy of a copy of a copy.

If you watch closely, you can spot the exact moment that David Duchovny's career ended.

There's a lot of screaming and carrying on (this is, remember, a movie containing Russian gangsters), but there's a curious absence of weight to the performances.

Audience Reviews for Playing God

½

The crime drama Playing God is a noir style film full of mystery and intrigue. The story follows Eugene Sands, a former surgeon that gets drawn into the life of a mob doctor, but soon finds that he's gotten in too deep. David Duchovny, Timothy Hutton, Angelina Jolie, and Peter Stormare form a solid cast and give good performances. Hutton is especially good at delivering the dark comedy, and creates a charismatic and fun villain. However, the directing is weak and hurts the film to a degree. Playing God is a flawed film, but still manages to deliver a compelling and entertaining thriller.

I enjoyed this film, more than I expected, " Jolie" reprises her acting at the level we first had a glimpse of in "True Woman".
