Audience Reviews for Pobre Pero Honrada

Miracle! Miracle! La India Maria's agua vitae heals an important man on the brink of death. Of course, there are bad guys intent on stealing ownership of the healing waters. Meanwhile, when Maria gets an attack of appendicitis and is rushed to the hospital, the important man's daughter approaches him with news of her newly born, fatherless child. Since Maria is unsure of the cause of her hospital visit, they convince her that she has given birth to the baby and, being a virgin, she assumes it must be an Immaculate Conception! This entertaining film, the second feature-film starring Maria Elena Velasco's La India Maria character, continues in classic screwball fashion with many amusing scenes. It's difficult to rate these movies without understanding all of the Spanish, but on face value, this is one of the better ones. I intend to learn Spanish just to gain more from these fun films! The title can be translated as "Poor, but Honorable/Honest!" and is another comment on the intent to honor the indigenous people of Mexico. Viva La India Maria!
