A top tier cast in Capra's swan song delivers the goods in this urban fantasy that cleverly carries the old moral that it's better to give than receive. While everyone's good in this (nearly half the pleasure is in recognizing who's who in the group) (and Peter Falk did snag a supporting Oscar nomination) it's Bette Davis's transformation at the center that powers the heart of this big, happy puppy let loose in your home.

Franks Capra's last movie is a affectionate comedy drama about an aging apple-seller who passes herself off as a woman of wealth in order to impress her daughter. Wonderful performances (Peter Falk was nominated for an Oscar) is somewhat undone by film's extreme 136min length.
