Not surprisingly, the Watson brothers were never in another movie. See more 06/13/2010 In Hot Pursuit, also known as Polk County Pot Plane, is one of the most shockingly entertaining films I've ever seen, solely because of how blatantly awful it is, and the story behind its creation is one of the best you'll ever hear. This movie stars Don and Bobby Watson as Oosh and Doosh. When a plane full of pot lands in the middle of the woods in Polk County, it's up to them to transport it for their boss, 1st Kingpin. But when 2nd Kingpin takes over the drug game, it's up to Oosh and Doosh to… Get more pot from another plane full of pot. And then do it one more time. This movie is basically comprised of three chase scenes, some of which with some actually impressive set pieces. But that's not why you watch this movie. You watch it because it is BAD. And I mean BAD. The story behind it is fascinating, so pull up your seat and listen to this. This movie is loosely based on a true story. In Polk County Texas, a plane full of pot landed in the middle of the woods on a 1000 foot runway which was bulldozed only hours before. This naturally caused some commotion, so the criminals were caught a day or two after the event. The funny and impressive thing was that they planned to abandon the plane in the woods knowing full well that it takes 3000 feet for it to make a proper take off. So it was left there for years, and eventually it was auctioned off to a guy who bulldozed the other 2000 feet needed to get it the hell out of there. So where does the movie fit in? Well, this was a pretty huge event in Polk County, so they decided to make a movie about it. And by they, I mean Polk County residents. It was made almost entirely by residents of the town. The actors are all real Polk County police officers, citizens, and even the same criminals involved with the original pot plane crime. And my God, people. The end result is one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed. Born not out of incompetence, but of such a vast lack of fundamental film knowledge that it can only be viewed as a wildly successful accident of biblical proportions. Everyone in the film is just a local non-actor. Many of them visibly reading lines off screen. All of them delivering each line like an aspiring middle school actor would. Each of them sound like Boomhaur from King of the Hill, speaking a Southern redneck drawl so potent that the words simply fail to materialize completely. It goes without saying that the production values are largely shit, but this is mostly due to how piss-poorly it's edited. Surprisingly, some of the set pieces are terrific, even more terrific knowing that denizens of the town did all of the stunts and crashes without the aid of special effects or stunt doubles. It was all just them doing a bunch of crazy shit by themselves. What I love most about this film is that it's a testament to the power of film and how it can bring people together. In this case, it's twofold. First, the draw of making a film brought together everybody in Polk County to do something awesome and have some fun making it, no matter how shitty it was. And second, the sheer horribleness of the film has brought people together to watch it, laugh at it, and have fun with it for decades now. It's a rare cult classic that revels in its ineptitude, and was frankly one of the funnest experiences I've ever had watching a film because of it. It's a celebration of the medium in the most unintentional way possible. Is it good? Fuck no. But that's why it's such a god damn blast to watch. This film is an amusement park. You will laugh, yell, and be jolly throughout its god-awful 90 minutes. And you'll love every second of it. See more 01/05/2010 Amateurish production that will not break any southern stereotypes. Nobody involved appears to have worked on another film--never a good sign. The Watson Bros are game to try anything though. Some characters appear to be using their real names.
