Mr. Beers and his fellow screenwriter, Mathew Harawitz, also have a numbing Seth MacFarlane-esque weakness for purely attention-getting crudeness and unfunny stereotypes.

While it's fun to imagine what John Waters might have done with that in the 1970s, Beers and Harawitz run dry (so to speak) very quickly, forcing them to return to their stockpile of mirthless lowbrow gags.

[T]he dim comedy Premature owes a debt to the looping time structure of Groundhog Day, but it owes more to those inglorious sex teases of the '80s, when wet dreams became waking nightmares.
