Audience Reviews for Prince's Trust All-Star Rock Concert

Edited to update this review: The 1998 release DVD of this concert in 5.1 surround dolby stereo is available through for about $20 with shipping and handling and well worth it. My vhs copy is wore out with distored audio track, but this is great. See my new video blog for clips. per RT synopsis: Synopsis: With a line-up that reads like the brochure for the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame, this 1986 gala concert -- staged as an annual event in England -- features eighteen top musical talents chosen by Prince Charles. Filmed at Wembley Arena, this pop-rock extravaganza features performances by rock legends like Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Rod Stewart, as well as younger and newer artists like Howard Jones, George Michael, and Paul Young. In all, eighteen songs are performed.---- RT (note: 1 hour 2 minutes.... not 1 hour 34 minutes per RT) ----------------------------------------------------- Well there, all the details. Why write a review? I give this the first RT 110% rating. Its just that good. Well, I just can't tell you how many times I have watched and re-watched this gala event, complete with Diana and stuffy Prince Charles at her side. Its a hoot to see them shaking their booties when Diana gets excited later in the benefit show. Hi-Fi Videophonic Stereo, Dolby system, color vhs cassette. (now in DVD as well with 5.1 dolby stereo) Well shot and crisp clarity, the sound is tremendous. Leads off with now Sir Elton John doing songs with Tina Turner. What a show stopper that was! Later, Paul Young does his hit Every Time You Go Away, then a late arrival of George Michael sings the song again with him as a duet. Very strange but it works. The crowd was ecstatic. Younger Eric Clapton does a fine duet with Tina Turner singing Tearing Us Apart. This concert has all the great hits of the day. The set contains in order of performance: Better Be Good To Me , Tina Turner/Elton John piano Tearing Us Apart, Clapton guitar/Turner duet Your Song, Elton John In the Air Tonight, Phil Collins Money for Nothing, Mark Knopfler and Sting Every Time You Go Away, Paul Young Every Time You Go Away, Paul Young/George Michael duet Sailing, Rod Stewart I'm Still Standing, Elton John I Saw Her Standing There, Paul McCartney Long Tall Sally, Paul McCartney Get Back, Paul McCartney and everyone else Wrote The New York Times: "High Flying Energy". And it is. VHS, an MGM/UA Home Entertainment production, 1987. The concert a BBC production, 1986
