Despite some of the shortcomings within the story itself, Alien: Covenant has provided the franchise and its mythology with a necessary infusion of fresh meat for the future.

As a fan... seeing the facehuggers once again, which Scott reintroduce here, felt like greeting an old friend.

A confusing dream of a film, Alien: Covenant tries hard to be beautiful in places where it shouldn't. Definitely worth your time -a better watch than Prometheus- but don't expect to be terrified or humbled by it.

That's the key word here: samey. There's nothing in Alien: Covenant we haven't seen before, and done considerably better.

Alien: Covenant is undoubtedly uneven, but the good easily outweighs the bad... I suspect that the only inarguable thing about Alien: Covenant is that it looks beautiful.

With this, Covenant manages to take away my biggest misgivings about Prometheus, and it delivers on the (body-)horror front, being quite probably the bloodiest of the lot so far.

This film pales compared to the original. Still, it is another adventure for Alien fans to go for.

A so-so entry into the series, Alien: Covenant is enjoyable but fails to deliver the answers we've been waiting five years for and won't get you excited for the release of yet another one of these prequels.

Alien: Covenant is the bloodiest this franchise has been in a long time, but it isn't scary. The film is a beautiful symphony performed with amateur instruments. It is a hellish workshop overflowing with gut-wrenching disappointment.

Other than [Michael] Fassbender's two androids, there are no memorable characters and as for the mythology of the series, it simply muddies the waters further.

A bit too familiar to either thrill or surprise, despite some nasty little twists. These are scenarios more compellingly explored, and with more iconic characters, in previous chapters.

Covenant is goofy, scary, ballsy and thoroughly satisfying, and if that's not what you consider a "true Alien movie," your definition needs revision and reflection.

Consistently stunning from a visual standpoint. Even at 80 years old, Scott can still run circles around much younger directors when it comes to visceral action scenes and rich imagery.

Alien: Covenant is better than Prometheus and has plenty of gore and blood to go around, but it doesn't live up to the iconic Alien - no matter how much it tries.

The most beautiful sequences in the film are those which allow Scott to observe the world around him in its grandeur, focused more on thoughtful exploration than exposition.

This is a rare sequel that actually improves its predecessor in retrospect by giving some of the weirder elements of that film an ultimate purpose.

Covenant takes John Milton into a future of cybernetics, where the synthetic human (an excellent dual performance by Michael Fassbender) takes on a Satanic role.

Ridley Scott is still a masterful filmmaker [but] which Ridley Scott do you want and which side of the Alien franchise are you looking for?
April 16, 2019
The familiarity of the setup works against the movie, because we know what's lurking in that suspicious-looking egg and it takes forever to pass each franchise touchstone.

Unfortunately, it starts off like you're getting a sequel to Prometheus.
