The history of the Mason is the real star of Proud. If you go expecting only that, then you won't be disappointed. And at times you may find yourself moved.

Proud may not have the best acting, biggest budget, or best written dialogue you will see in a movie, but it does tell an important story.

Watched 15 seconds of it and lost 15 seconds of my valuable short life, plus another 10 seconds writing this review about it.

(** 1/2): Interesting story but the direction and acting is just too amateurish (Davis is great, though). I also wish the filmmakers centered more on the people and events themselves instead of the racism issues. A near-miss for me.

It does mean well, this in an old fashioned flag raiser that lacks good direction and the acting could be better. It's a good story, just not given a very convincing treatment.
