Attenborough's narration is great and the 4th-wall breaking authorial intervention works well in this, unlike many films. The social satire of N. Irish Troubles and Catholicism works, and Elliott Gould maintains character and accent well until everyone intentionally breaks it down. But the cast is largely just not up to pulling off such broad characters. One can't help comparing them to the Goons, as they are clearly filling those types with little success.

The idea of the actors talking directly to the godlike dirctor is fun. The actors are ok, but it dosen't really get to any funny point. Too bad, it could really had been something.

Rumour say that Richard Attenboroughs fee for making his part was the price of one pint of beer. That's cool.
