Broder settles for a broadly played comedy in which the disabled are never really that disabled and intolerance stems more from naivete than from genuine malice.

It is possible for a movie to skewer its characters and embrace them, but Pumpkin is too obvious to pull it off and so shaky in the tone department that it practically begs to be misinterpreted.

By halfway through this picture I was beginning to hate it, and, of course, feeling guilty for it.... Then, miracle of miracles, the movie does a flip-flop.

This post-p.c. comedy is rather less than the sum of its inconsistent daredevil postures.

Pumpkin sits in a patch somewhere between mirthless Todd Solondzian satire and callow student film.

Like a grinning Jack O' Lantern, its apparent glee is derived from a lobotomy, having had all its vital essence scooped out and discarded.
