It is possible for a movie to skewer its characters and embrace them, but Pumpkin is too obvious to pull it off and so shaky in the tone department that it practically begs to be misinterpreted.

A satire is supposed to be funny in some way -- and, overall, I found Pumpkin to be a rather grim and unappealing little item.
