An ethnic comedy of thin charms but a very nice sense of place -- Manhattan's Upper West Side.

Audience Reviews for Putzel

½

A small, NYC-based indie film about good Jewish boy Walter (Jack Carpenter - Sydney White) who works at the family bagel and lox business with his Uncle Sid (John Pankow - The Secret of My Success). Walter dreams of taking over the family business but doesn't seem to understand that in order for him to do that he'll have to venture out into a world he is distressingly afraid of (he hasn't left his own, small neighborhood his entire life). When both him and his (married) uncle fall for a new customer (Melanie Lynskey - Up in the Air), their lives are forever changed as Sid could lose the business in a nasty divorce which would leave Walter with nothing but a knowledge of bagels and lox. The film has some charm to it but little else as none of the characters are believably fleshed out. It aims for quirky, little indie ... and that is what it gives its audience although there were moments I was hoping for more.
