Turns out to be almost as bad as its title.
The wonderful title of this movie is apparently too subtle for many reviewers. A quantum is a specific amount of something--in physics it means the smallest discrete form of energy, like a proton. And a quantum of solace was exactly what Bond got: perhaps the smallest amount possible, but something. Don't cha hate it when movie titles work on a number of different levels, comment on the movie itself and make you think?

so what is solace? the movie was good i just still dont get the title...i found this one more confusing than casino royale which i understood a lot better...but this movie was still good....oh and not to hate on the tomatometer...but i thought a movie had to be at least a 70 or 75% to have certified fresh in its fresh tomato? this one is at a 64% but i still enjoyed it

The title is taken from Ian Fleming's Short story, which I believe was a collection of stories actually. The tile is representative of a darker, edgier story. A quantum of solace, kind of like an amount of consultation, which is needed after this film. While the title didn't ruin this film, it did that on it's own, it certainly didn't bolster it's appeal. In the wake of the awesomeness of Casino, this was a flop. Although the opening car chase was amazing. Sorry, better luck next movie.
