Movie Info

One of the most talked about and divisive films of the year, Artisan Entertainment's provocative Raw Deal: A Question of Consent has incited passionate debate over its graphic investigation of a highly publicized University of Florida rape case. Examining the blurry boundary between consensual sex and rape, Alfred Spellman's and Billy Corben's incendiary, taboo-smashing documentary unveils explicit video footage of the alleged sex crime in order to make sense of the participants' conflicting testimonies. -- © 2001 Artisan Entertainment

Critic Reviews for Raw Deal: A Question of Consent

Unfortunately, this film makes the case seem even scuzzier than it already is with its overheated, incident-and-shot repeating style and ludicrous, faux-ominous music score that would be right at home on Inside Edition.

Although this may be no one's idea of a pretty story, Corben manages to make it utterly absorbing.

This is a film that MUST be seen by men and women, together, if not to expose this amazing story to the world, then just to see how split down the middle men vs. women are in regards to the outcome.

A strong, effective discussion of the issues at hand, and a powerful reminder that there are at least two sides to every story.

We leave the cinema thinking 'what morons' instead of having our minds opened -- and that amounts to a fail.

This is a difficult film to watch and near impossible to rate.
