I thought The Snare was much better than Sword of Justice in that it concentrates on the storyline unlike the first movie which focused more on Hanzo's interrogation techniques on women. We get to see two such interrogations but it doesn't last for that long and his training methods on which I mentioned in another review is kept to a minimum. This is by far one of the most sexist movies I've seen and so politically incorrect but that's why it's so great. You could never get away doing these kind of movies these days. The dry humour which is present throughout the movie is there to let you know that you can't take everything too seriously. A particular sequence I loved was the ambush by Lord Okubo's ninjas at Hanzo's house. Naturally Hanzo is well prepared for such an attack and has boobytrapped the entire place. Spears come down from the ceiling and from the walls of the house and there's a hidden arsenal of weapons for Hanzo to use. The attack is a complete failure and the assassins are decimated. Blood is sprayed about like it's come from a hosepipe! Some of the statements that come out from Hanzo's mouth is just so hilarious.
Shintaro Katsu is just awesome as the anti-hero Hanzo. He's like a bull in a china shop barging his way into every situation but it produces results. You just woudn't mess with the guy if you came across him. The actors protraying his ex-con assistants produce much of the humour and provide a nice balance for Hanzo's snarly attitude.
If you liked Hanzo's first movie then you have to check out this one. Who would have thought that Japanese trash cinema would be so much fun! Those that are easily offended would be wise to stay away from this movie.
More of Officer Hanzo using his, um..., 'sword' interrogation technique!
Hanzo is back for the 2nd great installment of this series dealing out his own brand of justice w/ his sword, wakizashi, chain, sai, deadly lair & of coarse his giant cock. He is the officer from hell. This series is really picking up steam. This time out Hanzo investigates a girl who has died after having an abortion & once again he is sneering @ the government. Shintaro Katsu is merciless in this role & I fucking love it. He even cracks out the net again to extract information. Talk about tortured esctasy. His female prisoners have no other choice then to give up the goods & ask for more
I caught this grind-house picture on late night television the other night and found myself captivated, yet quite disturbed at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I love bloody kung fu violence and high flying adventure, but this was just so odd. Why do I call this odd? Well, the hero of the story has a certain body part that seems to be made of steel. There is also witchcraft and abortion, alongside stomach turning sexual violence. This is not the high-caliber movie of the 70s karate explosion, but I've seen worse!
I naturally managed to watch the middle film in a trilogy, but since it's a stand alone series, it's easy to jump into.
The casual rape/torture scenes aside, this is a really fun movie, full of great sword fights and an amusing gadget-filled lair from which Hanzo works.
Well worth a look, but be forewarned about the racy/controversial content.
It might be possible that Hanzo knows everything that there is to know about women. He can just look at a dead woman and tell by the color of her nipples if she was a slut or not. I've watched two of the movies now and I have to admit that it's kinda weird seeing Zatoichi put women into nets and then spin them on his cock to make them talk. I guess you just have to go along with it. Still interesting movies.
There nothing much that's new in the two Hanzo sequels. The Razor goes about his his routine, torturing himself and raping some more suspicious women in what must be the most curious of procedurals. It's all formula, more of the same for those of us who loved the first film, with nothing to push the envelope.
the hanzo movies are intentionally tongue and cheek and incredibly silly. they are a mix of sexploitation, samurai, and spaghetti westerns. i preferred the first one to this but it was still entertaining
If this is the right movie, which I think it is, I was not impressed. This is such a smutty film. Hanzo delivers his lines with ridiculous masculinity and bravado...spitting out each syllable as if there was a bad taste in his mouth. Okay, he uses rape to interrogate people...original, yes. In good taste? Not even close. Also, the swordplay is a bit sloppy, and the music is generally annoying and ripped from a early 70s porno. pfffft, watch it only if it's free.
