Movie Info

Carrie Preston, John G. Preston, Michael Emerson, and Lurie Poston star in director James Vasquez's coming of age comedy about a young boy obsessed with dresses, dolls, and cheerleading. Joshua Dowd (Poston) isn't like the other boys in class. All Joshua's single mother Andy (Carrie Preston) wants is for her son to be normal, but instead of joining the wrestling team like the rest of his classmates Joshua longs to try out for his school's all-girl cheerleading team. Upon receiving the news that her absent father has died, Andy is surprised to see her wayward brother Alex (John G. Preston) appear unannounced on her doorstep. Perhaps now that these estranged siblings have finally come back together, they can finally start to understand what it truly means to be a "family" - even if they don't fall under the traditional definition of the word.

Charming and criminally unreleased theatrically; one of the ten best films of 2008

The film works so well because it comes from something personal and you can't fake intimate details that come from life. You'll come out of this one cheering.

Audience Reviews for Ready? OK!

An adorable little film with an even bigger message behind it. I also loved the surprise appearances by Kali Rocha (Halfrek) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Michael Emerson (Ben) from Lost.

Cute movie; threw it on while I was doing some other stuff. The message was great, and the little boy was adorable, annnnd seeing Michael Emerson was a pleasant surprise. Not a movie I'd watch again, though, but a pretty decent one to throw on while you're doing stuff.

I honestly expected to hate this film, but I was intrigued by it the whole time. The story was filled with highly flawed charaters trying their best to not make major mistakes. The child actor had the absolute perfect balance of childish naivete and out-and-out annoyingness--his character wouldn't have worked if the child wasn't somewhat annoying. I was also delighted to see Kali Rocha, as I absolutely love her. A decent movie.
