Alex Ferrari's writing and Dan Cregan's directing merge together to produce the animated short Red Princess Blues Animated: The Book of Violence.

This short is only 6 minutes; if including the credits, then 7 plus change. The story unfolds via narration from the main character of Princess and it is over just as it begins. For what it's worth, it is interesting and it serves as a good introduction to a much bigger story.

The animation has a very dark and mature feel to it and that matches the concept of the story. There isn't much in the way of motion, as this film comes across more like a slide-show with a film noir cinematic feel to it. Still, it is effective in helping with the delivery of the story.

There are only 2 characters which need voice-work. A little monotone at times, Paula Garces does a nice job with the narration and the voice of Princess. Larry Robinson's voice sounds a little awkward, but it is acceptable as the book owner Nino.

All in all, Red Princess Blues Animated: The Book of Violence is a pleasing short that leaves the door open for more expansion.
