Audience Reviews for Red Shadow

Three young Ninjas (Ando, Aso and Morakamim) of a clan devoted to keeping peace among the many warring nobles of 16th century Japan inadvertantly find themselves at odds with a completing Ninja cland and in the middle of a plot to overthrow Princess Koto (Okina) by powerhungry and bloodthirsty members of her court. "Red Shadow" is a fast-moving action-comedy with cool and honorable (if occassionally clumsy) Ninjas, sinister and treacherous Samurai that presents just the right mix of action, humor, drama and over-the-top Ninja action to make it a fun viewing experience from beginning to end. Good acting and a neat pop-rock, guitar-driven soundtrack also adds greatly to the both the fun and the excitement. With great looking sets and costumes, virtually no blood and no sex or nudity, this is a Ninja film that the entire family can enjoy together. The story is a bit disjointed at times, but the exceptional quality in all other departments make up for this. Red Shadow Starring: Masanobu Ando, Megumi Okina, Jun Murakamim and Kumiko Aso Director: Hiroyuki Nakano

I've never seen anything quite like it. Based on Samurai Fiction and directed by Hiroyuki Nagano, "Red Shadow" (aka. "Akakage") is a genre of it's OWN. The story begins with the introduction of its lead character Akakage, a ninja disguised as a Samurai who dispels some thieves making some mischief on the road. He introduces himself in a goofy voice-over, and we are thrown back into time to see how this slick ninja got to be where he is today. (or that day) Akakage belongs to the Kage Ninja Clan that lives in the forest outside of a great feudal lord's castle. Akakage, Aokage, and Asuka grow up training to be ninja in the clan and in the process become great friends. When they grow up to become full-fledged ninja, they are teamed and sent on dangerous missions together. Akakage and Aokage enjoy scoring each other's landings as they leap over walls, and Asuka's trademark attack is to kick her opponent in the crotch. However, when treachery runs afoot, the three ninja are forced to part ways; fearing their own strengths, wondering if killing in the name of peace is really warranted...the usual. Akakage is left alone in the world of the Kage Ninjas, slated to be their next leader. When the ninja are no longer required of the feudal lord, he poses as a Samurai to pass the time. THIS is where he meets feudal princess Koto-hime. Koto-hime, under the impression that her life has been saved by a brave samurai, she enlists him to protect her from the ever-invading outside forces. Akakage being the ever-loyal, vows to protect her with his life. "Akakage!" "Ho" (formal "yes") "AKAKAGE!" "Ho" "A--" "Ho..oh..." Seriously funny stuff. While incorporating ninjutsu into a live-action film (something RARELY done), Nakano-san made it funny, sweet, and really quite cinematically beautiful. But, all the while, the feudal lord wishes to be entertained all the time, and for some reason, a rhythmic gymnast is one of these entertainers...anachronism much? Not to mention, the action sequences really are less-than-impressive in choreography. That being said, it should be mentioned that ninja fighting mainly involves escape techniques...so it's not gonna be all-out WAR at every turn. They have sleep spray that basically makes their opponents go night-night. If you're at ALL a kung-fu fan, this movie is one that should not be missed, and at $12.99 at Best Buy, will make a fantastic addition to anyone's kung-fu collection. Awesome film. Alrighty then, that's it for now. Don't know when I'll update again, but stay tuned!!!

This movie to had me saying "What the Hell!" agian but it was in a good way. One of the ninja is clumbsy and its funny, you don't really see ninja movies where one of them can't keep their balance. Well all I can say is to watch this movie because it is hella good!
