This is a fun, funny addition to UNCLE canon and had the ratings to be made into a new series. Unfortunately the leads, McCallum and Vaughn, didn't want the rigors of a weekly show again. The one major flaw is that the movie labors to get the duo back together, only to split them up again and send them on differing missions. There's a young agent on hand to take care of the physical stunts, but he's proved unnecessary by McCallum's defiance of age and ability to leap, hang, and punch his way through an hour and a half.

The new head of UNCLE was Patrick MacNee, and it seemed he would work out well in the role. Too bad fans were denied another run of UNCLE, but at least we had the originals and this one "sequel".

The show that wouldn't say U.N.C.L.E. - not quite a success, but highly enjoyable - especially as it was designed as a back-door pilot for a new rebooted series. Robert Vaughn and David McCallum slip effortlessly back into the shoulder holsters and Patrick McNee charms as the new U.N.C.L.E. chief - with some very nice tips of the hat to the memory of the late Leo G Carroll. The plot is similar to both Thunderball and it's step-sister Never Say Never Again as a criminal organistation (THRUSH not SPECTRE) gets it's hands on a nuclear weapon.

The TV show was much better, but this reunion movie does manage to capture the spirit of that show pretty well.
