Ben Pobjie The Age (Australia) Jan 2, 2026
Mortality is at its best when Gervais isn’t elaborating philosophies, but relaxing into conversational style, albeit a more foul-mouthed and impolite conversation than you might be used to. Go to Full Review
Tatat Bunnag Bangkok Post Jan 20, 2026
It is mostly focused on comedy, but weighed down by a handful of unfocused, generally unfunny detours. Go to Full Review
Sean L. McCarthy Decider Jan 9, 2026
The brutal truth is that the farther he becomes removed from his classic works with Stephen Merchant, the less Gervais has to offer. Go to Full Review

[Gervais'] jokes have become so bad that laughing at them seems like I am partaking in a charity event to help this old man feel relevant. Go to Full Review

There is nothing more eminently mockable than virtue-signalling always-online faux-liberalism, but bringing up the most obviously ridiculous examples of it for an hour doesn’t necessarily constitute an act. Go to Full Review

Michael B @KVD1969 Sep 7, 2026 Mortality is Ricky Gervais's stand-up comedy special and world tour following the success of his previous shows, SuperNature and Armageddon. True to his signature style, the show dives into dark humor, existential dread, and the absurdity of aging, illness, and the human condition. Gervais explores how society handles death and taboo subjects, using his sharp wit to challenge political correctness and modern sensibilities. He uses the topic of death not to be morbid, but to highlight the hilarity and absurdity of taking life too seriously before it ends. The material balances controversial observations with playful self-deprecation, reminding audiences to laugh at the one outcome every human shares. See more Frank D @RT15994345 May 23, 2026 I'm blown away by the low ratings. Honest, brilliant and very funny. Hilarious! We need more Ricky! See more Eric S @RT15064878 Feb 12, 2026 Ricky does it again! His bits about "hate crime" and "free speech" are spot on as usual. See more George H @Geohal78 Feb 8, 2026 So bad. I lasted 15 minutes but just couldn’t take any more. Utter drivel See more Rushdi I @Rushinz88888888 Jan 31, 2026 I absolutely loved Mortality. Not in a polite "that was clever" way—but in the deeply satisfying way you love something that says out loud what you’ve been thinking and does it with brutal precision and perfect timing. Ricky Gervais is operating at peak confidence here. Mortality feels like a comedian who has shed any need to be liked and discovered that honesty is funnier anyway. He stares straight at death, offense, religion, and outrage culture and treats them all with amused disbelief. He isn’t scared of mortality—he’s irritated by how much time we waste pretending we’re not all headed to the same ending. Every joke is deliberate. Every pause matters. He leads you into discomfort, lets it breathe, then lands punchlines that are outrageous, undeniable, and earned. It’s bold, unapologetic, sharply argued comedy that doesn’t comfort you—it wakes you up. I laughed constantly, agreed often, disagreed occasionally, and loved every minute. See more TropicalBloke T @TropicalBloke Jan 30, 2026 He’s not been funny for a long time, but this one is really dull. See more Read all reviews
