See more Blu B @RT43513976 Apr 28 It's ok on it's own but compared to other adaptations of the play it's inferior in almost all aspects if not everyone of them honestly. First off the acting is just ok. The two leads just don't have much chemistry, it feels like there delivering their lines in a modern way and not in the classical style needed for something like this. they also jsut don't have that much chemistry either. Booth as Romeo is so forgettable it's not funny. He has no charisma at all. Compare that to someone like DiCaprio from 96' who had so much charisma, energy, and understanding of what he was saying. This just feels like their reading the lines. Not feeling them but heck who am I to judge, I find the plays words flowerly myself. Giamatti & Lewis are decent and probably the best things in this. Especailly Giamatti. The music..isn't bad but it can be very forgettable, blending in, and just doesn't really do much. Sometimes it works but most of the time it's just there. The cinematography which has a few nice shots here and there is jsut alright too. Since the acting isn't anything special you'd expect there is something to make up for it visually with so much on location scenes. And...ehh...it's not terrible but the direction is so basic and uninspired lots of times. The editing isn't bad and this isn't incoherent or anything like it's edited like a Tony Scott film. But sometimes especially in the first half it cuts around a bit too much it feels like for no reason and it's a bit distracting. Again there is nothing broken here but everything is so medicore it just hums along the entire way. I struggle to find a reason beyond steinfeld being in this why people new to the bard or fans of his work would choose this over other adaptations. Skip This.
