As I watched this movie, I gained more of an appreciation of Rosa Parks and what she did for the civil rights movement. Angela Bassett was fantastic!!

One of my all-time favorite movies. It has been our family tradition for 14 years to watch this each year on MLK Day. Angela Bassett is extraordinary. She portrays Rosa from a teenager to old age, equally convincing at every stage of the journey.

a true to the story biopic a good movie showing the life of a seamstress in midst a white power america the only problem with the movie is at times it feels sloppily edited there's a lot of stuff in here that could have been cut and its kind of all over the place in the plot but good movie none the less like I said true real biopic

a story about one of the greatest women in black history
Rosa Parks just wanted equal treatment like all white Americans so when one day she refused to give up her seat on a bus to work for a white man she was arrested for it
but in the process she inspired many followers to follow along in her bravery and civil rights activism
Angela Bassett is extraordinary in the lead role and sells it as Rosa for her courage, determination, dignity, and leadership
the filmmakers don't skim around anything here; it feels very authentic and detailed documenting the events of Rosa's biography
even her husband Raymond is given some much needed depth
plus it also touches upon some semblance of black manhood; the body of a mistreated black may be weak but the soul is strong and it is a terrible thing being treated as less than a man/human being
Rosa Parks will forever be remembered not just for her disobedience but the big turnaround for many oppressed African Americans

Watched this with Minetta last night for one of her class projects... what an inspiring look at a woman who simply and quietly answered "You may do that" when threatened with arrest for "sitting her ground" for human rights.

Good movie but it is missing something. Love Angela Bassett though.

Way to much emphasis placed on the love story between Rosa and Raymond which takes away from the actual point of the story. The civil rights movement should not be overshadowed by a typical hollywood love story.

Angela Bassett gives a strong performance as Rosa Parks and I learned a thing or two. But the film itself is pretty amateurish and riddled with "you can do anything if you set your mind to it" cliches.

Angela Bassett is one of the best actresses ever. Rosa Parks was a consultant in this movie and her story is a wonderful one. The movie was not 100% faithful to the story but it was still a really good one.

Superb presentation...the only fault I see is that the racial bigotry was "tame" in comparison to the blind hatred exhibited by the KKK and staunch white supremacy advocates in the south. The movie tried to deal with many issues at apathy, white acceptance of the status quo, the fear of change, the many hidden agendas of the whites in power. Especially telling was the dog being given a drink by his white master at the colored only drinking fountain and the Bible (in the courtroom) with the label "whites only" on it. Rosa Parks was a very courageous woman who stood her ground and said "NO" and for that she will be remembered as the mother of the equal rights movement!

A powerful and memorable film, though it speeds through certain points of history rather quickly.

absolutely love this film, again it stars angela bassett as the now late rosa parks. this film is a great insight to those, like myself, who weren't around at that time ta have witnessed such nasty racial discrimination. set in the 1950's.
