Any sincerity inherent in the project is overwhelmed by the manufactured awe of its godawful New Age score.

I'm certain that the desired effect was not to emerge depressed, but this had that effect.

Fricke's film reminds us there's an inspiring world out there, but his approach is badly in need of creative rebirth.

Lacks any sense of who, when, where and why to its imagery.

There may be no words within "Samsara," a visually startling work of global cinematography. But there is a narrative, one by which the movie undermines itself.

The result is like an issue of National Geographic gone mad.

A rambling assault on the visual cortex that teeters between guided meditation and guided tour.

Fricke and his crew capture such moments as a Hawaiian volcano erupting to life with a stunning, you-are-there clarity. But the film winds up being a collection of striking visuals without any emotional heft.

Outs Fricke and Magidson as high-minded aesthete snobs.

The makers of "Samsara" want to free our minds, but their technique makes us their prisoners more often than not.

"Samsara" finds the world a little less blessed than it was two decades ago, yet still beautiful, which seems to be the movie's primary message.

Its impact is sporadic and spotty...at times it's mesmerizing, at others simply tedious.

A truly individual, dedicated concept that pulls through by seamlessly flowing in perfect harmonic construction.

With arguably the most incredible colours and landscapes ever been committed to film, Samsara forms consistently coherent episodes that show how, even when other cultures may appear alien, everything is connected.
